On 13th June, 1918, the 2nd Royal Fusilier battalion of 86 Brigade, 29th Division were relieved from the front line at Swartenbrough between Bailleul and Hazebrouck and moved back to a camp at Morbecque. While making their way back a shell landed in the middle of a platoon of Z Company, causing carnage. Eleven men were killed and another seven wounded. Arthur Franklin was among those killed. |
